A Crown of Glory
The noise of battle was deafening. George was lying prone to the rear of his foxhole. The enemy was driving hard to encroach on the American lines. This was a full advance for the North Koreans as they charged the opposite line.
George had no knowledge of what was happening on his side as he was needed to fight his own battle right now. Suddenly it felt as if a huge bee had stung him on his left leg. He felt his leg and it was warmly wet. He looked at his hand and saw it was red.
George had joined the Army as soon as possible and elected to become an infantry soldier. He was enjoying his chosen field and managed to be with a local girl whose dad was a retired Infantry sergeant. He married the girl and knew she would be waiting if he was sent to the new action in Korea.
Follow George as he gets past Korea and elects to remain in the Army. He is next assigned to Vietnam before his retirement can be reached.
