Summer News of 2006
The summer of 2006 is coming to an end, it is Sept. already! This little News Update will be just some of my ramblings on what is happening here at Carefree Manor RV, in no particular chronological order.
As the “season” came to an end (last spring) many of our friends and neighbors hit the road for points afar. My wife and I decided we would stay here and enjoy the Arizona Summertime.
It turned out to be a good decision. There has been so much going on around here that we have hardly gotten a chance to sit and act retired.
The hottest day that we have had this summer was 118° F. Mostly it runs 110 - 113° during the day and into the 90s at night. By the last half of July the Monsoon season starts. It cools off a little when the storms come in (usually in the afternoon) and it is very humid. Last night the humidity was up to 92%!
We have been “lucky” this year because we have only had a couple of bad storms here in Apache Junction. They come at us from the NE and seem to breakup and go around us when they come across the Superstition mountains.
A couple of weeks ago we did get hit with a big storm. Lots of rain, lightning and wind. The wind was 62-70 mph straight line with a couple of “micro-bursts”.
Damage at the park could have been much worse. As it was Almyra Prell lost her awning, Elmer & Linda Weers had the roof blown off their Arizona Room (it ended up on their house roof), Walter & Evelyn Bell had their pickup camper in the storage area and it flipped over onto its roof and skidded about 60’ across the ground (no permanent damage!), Mike & Pat Miele lost the “doghouse” fan-vent off one of the sheds (it was located and repaired), a few people had the skirting around their homes blown off.
It was a little scary but nothing like you guys from the Midwest get during the summer! The mess has been cleaned up and repairs are being made.
